You won't be able to do all of the poses.
+ No one is able to do all of the poses and no one expects you to be able to.
+ You can only push your body so far, and yoga works muscles you didn't even know you had – especially during your first class.
+ You're going to feel the burn and twist your body into positions that feel foreign to you. That's normal.
+ If you're unsure about how to do a pose, pay attention to your instructor or neighbor.
+ Do your best but don’t strain yourself. Take a break when you need too—no one will judge you.
Talk to your instructor
+ Let your instructor know of any injuries that you have ahead of class.
+ Your instructor is there to guide and help you. If you have difficulty with any postures, your instructor will help you to modify.
+ Your instructor will likely ask the class at the beginning if anyone has reservations about being adjusted into positions. If they don't ask, let them know before class starts that you aren't okay with them touching you.
+ If you don't mind being touched, let your instructor adjust you so they can physically move you into the correct pose. It makes a huge difference.
Yoga props will help you with your poses.
+ Your instructor will utilize props to help you with your practice. Some of these props are yoga blocks, yoga straps and blankets.
+ Yoga blocks and yoga straps (sometimes called yoga belts) help you to deepen your stretches and poses while helping to maintain proper alignment.
+ Yoga blankets are very helpful in sitting postures, as they provide both support and height. Blankets also help the legs to relax and give support to the lower back. Blankets help to release tight muscles in the back, neck, and shoulders you can place the blanket under your back.
